App Store Product Page Header & Search Results Images (iOS 27)
Sizes, safe areas, video specs and design tips for the new App Store product page header (3840×1646), search results artwork (3:2) and universal 5244×2950 asset.
The App Store product page header is a 21:9 image at 3840 × 1646 px, and search results artwork is a 3:2 image between 1920 × 1280 and 3840 × 2560 px. Both accept JPEG or PNG without transparency, and a single 16:9 PNG at 5244 × 2950 px can serve as both. Apple added these assets to App Store Connect on 5 October 2026, together with an Asset Library and a product page preview tool, and they appear on the App Store in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
Quick answer: sizes and formats
| Asset | Aspect ratio | Size (px) | Formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product page header | 21:9 | 3840 × 1646 | .jpeg, .jpg, .png |
| Search results | 3:2 | 1920 × 1280 (min) to 3840 × 2560 (max) | .jpeg, .jpg, .png |
| Universal (header + search) | 16:9 | 5244 × 2950 | .png |
| Header video | 21:9 | 3840 × 1646 | .mov, .m4v, .mp4 |
| Search video | 3:2 | 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560 | .mov, .m4v, .mp4 |
- No alpha channel. Like screenshots, these images must be fully opaque. A PNG exported with an alpha channel can be rejected even if every pixel is opaque.
- Exact dimensions. The header has one size; the search asset can be any exact 3:2 size within the range. Export at the maximum size so the image stays sharp on large iPads.
- Universal asset. The 5244 × 2950 PNG is cropped to each placement. It saves work but gives you less control than two dedicated files.
Where the new assets appear
Product page header
The header sits at the very top of your product page, above the app name, icon and Get button. It is the first thing someone sees after tapping your app anywhere on the store. The top edge sits under the back and share buttons, so don’t put anything important near it.
Search results
When you provide search results artwork, the Search tab shows it for your app instead of the in-app events, app previews and screenshots that would otherwise appear in that result. If you don’t provide one, search results keep showing screenshots as before — which is why the first three screenshots still matter for people on older OS versions and for apps without artwork.
On iPhone the search asset is shown at roughly phone width, which is only a few hundred points across. Treat it like a billboard viewed from a distance: one subject, a few words.
Safe areas and cropping
Apple’s guidance is to keep focal artwork centered because the visible area changes with device, orientation and placement. Apple provides templates; the safe areas below are measurements taken from those templates and reported by developers, so treat them as approximate.
| Asset | Canvas (px) | Approx. safe area (px) | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Header 21:9 | 3840 × 1646 | ≈ 1646 × 661 | Centered (about x 1097–2743, y 493–1154) |
| Search 3:2 | 3840 × 2560 | ≈ 2168 × 1030 | Centered (about x 836–3004, y 765–1795) |
| Search 3:2 (min) | 1920 × 1280 | ≈ 1084 × 515 | Centered, scaled from the above |
The practical rule: put your headline, device and any key detail inside the safe area, and fill the rest of the canvas with background that can be cropped away without losing meaning — a gradient, a pattern, a blurred extension of your scene. Everything outside the safe area should still look intentional on an iPad, where more of it is visible.
For the 5244 × 2950 universal PNG, the image has to survive both a wide 21:9 crop and a taller 3:2 crop, so the usable area is the overlap of both. Keep artwork tighter to the center than you would on a dedicated file.
Header and search videos
- Dimensions: header 3840 × 1646 (21:9); search 3:2 from 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560.
- Length and frame rate: 5–30 seconds, 30 or 60 fps.
- Formats: .mov, .m4v or .mp4.
- Sound: videos are muted by default. On the product page people can unmute; in search results they can’t, so the search video must work silently.
- Looping: videos loop, so make the last frame flow into the first.
Design videos so any single frame works as a still. Many people will only glance at the result while scrolling, and a video that opens on a blank or fading frame looks broken.
What you can and can’t show
These assets are metadata, so the App Review Guidelines for metadata apply. Apple’s guidance and developer reports point to a conservative set of rules:
- No prices, discounts or “free” claims — they go out of date and vary by region.
- No other platforms or stores, and no third-party logos you don’t have rights to.
- No Apple recognitions such as Editors’ Choice, and no claims you can’t back up (“#1”, “best”).
- No URLs or copyright symbols in the artwork.
- Suitable for a 4+ audience, even if your app has a higher age rating — the search asset can appear in front of anyone.
Design tips that work at both sizes
- One idea per asset. Apple’s own advice for the header is to focus on a single, clear idea. For the search asset, show what the app is — usually your best screen on a device.
- Short headline, big type. Three to five words that state the benefit. Test by viewing the search asset scaled to about 384 px wide: if you can’t read it, nobody can.
- Don’t repeat the app name. The name and icon are right next to the artwork; spend the space on what the app does.
- Use your brand colors. Pull colors from your icon so the header, icon and screenshots read as one system — our icon palette extractor helps.
- Mind light and dark mode. The surrounding App Store UI changes with the system appearance. Avoid backgrounds that vanish against either pure white or near-black.
- Make the header and search assets siblings, not copies. The 21:9 header has room for a wide scene or several devices; the 3:2 search asset needs one large device or subject.
- Localize the text. If your headline has words, upload localized versions — the same reasoning as for localized screenshots.
Uploading in App Store Connect
- Export the files at exact size, flattened, with no alpha channel. Our screenshot checker catches wrong sizes and transparency before App Store Connect does.
- Add the files in App Store Connect (they’re kept in the Asset Library) and attach them to the header and search placements of your product page.
- Open the product page preview to check crops on iPhone and iPad.
- Submit with your next version. The placement follows the version through App Review, so plan artwork changes alongside releases.
Make them with our tools
The editor has board presets for the 3840 × 1646 header, 3:2 search artwork (3840 × 2560 and 1920 × 1280) and the 5244 × 2950 universal asset, each with an approximate safe-area overlay based on Apple’s templates. Exports are flattened with no transparency. Start from a template, drop in a device mockup, and use the store listing preview for a rough look at the result — then confirm the final crop in Apple’s own preview tool.
Frequently asked questions
What size is the App Store product page header image?
The header is 21:9 at 3840 × 1646 px in JPEG or PNG without transparency. Alternatively you can upload one 16:9 PNG at 5244 × 2950 px that works for both the header and search results.
What size is the App Store search results image?
Search results artwork is 3:2, from 1920 × 1280 px up to 3840 × 2560 px, in JPEG or PNG without an alpha channel. The 5244 × 2950 px universal PNG is also accepted.
Does the search results image replace my screenshots?
On iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, when you provide search results artwork the Search tab shows it for your app in place of the in-app events, previews and screenshots that appear there otherwise. Without it, search results look as before.
Can header and search assets be videos?
Yes. Videos use the same aspect ratios, run 5 to 30 seconds at 30 or 60 fps, and can be .mov, .m4v or .mp4. They play muted and loop; on the product page people can unmute, in search results they can’t.
What is the safe area for the App Store header image?
Apple asks you to keep focal artwork centered. Measured from Apple’s templates, the header safe area is roughly 1646 × 661 px in the middle of the 3840 × 1646 canvas, and the 3:2 search safe area is roughly 2168 × 1030 px at 3840 × 2560. Always confirm with Apple’s template and the preview tool.
Which iOS version shows the new header and search artwork?
The assets are displayed on the App Store in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 and later. Older OS versions keep the classic layout with screenshots and previews.
